Cornered, dying empires, just like dogs, always do bite hard.
Cornered, dying empires, just like dogs, always do bite hard.

Philipp K. Dick, the science-fiction author of “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep”, a book later turned into the cult movie “Blade Runner”, has written a lesser known work titled “The Man in the High Castle”; This book was turned into an unconventional TV Series (2015-2019). The theme is based on a fictive postulation that the Second World War was not won by the Allies, but instead, by a coalition of the Nazis and Japanese forces. A dreadful proposition, isn’t it ? As an avid reader of Philipp K. Dick, I was however not aware of this book’s existence, till I watched the first episodes of the series, that I found appalling... In the author’s universe, the USA are split into three entities, or regions: the west coast, belonging to the German Reich, the east coast belonging to the Japan Empire, with a narrow neutral zone in the mountainous lands in-between.

So, this morning, after an agitated night evidently caused by the gloomy atmosphere radiated by the movie’s theme and images, I woke up to a revelation.

Although it is a fact in our reality that the Allies did indeed win the war, I realised that in the present time, the democracies we take for granted in the West are slowly but surely slipping towards a similar dystopian world, where a fascist ideal, inclusive of totalitarism, coercion and torture, becomes common place.

And I am amazed by the short-sightedness showed by politicians and the common man alike when they seriously discuss the outcome of the upcoming US elections, while it is obvious that the top players are not playing by the rule and that they will, without a doubt, contest the result if it is not in their favour — respect of the factual is not their forte.

Whatever the outcome, the US elections do not matter.

Whoever believes that Trump will quietly go into retirement if he loses the elections is an absolute fool. Trump is not going anywhere. He will forcibly take power, using all the instruments he has patiently put into place, including the Army if necessary. Although he himself is a moron, he has had the right advisers to help him build a barely hidden political structure, while the rest of the world, and the citizens of the USA as well, were watching merrily and kept dancing the carmagnole.

Furthermore, whoever thinks Trump is old and will die soon, and that things will automatically return to “normal” when it finally happens, is also a fool. Trump has put in key places too many sycophants who will step into his legacy without scruple. Power is in their hands and only a bloody revolution implying civil war could take it away from them — an unlikely occurrence, considering the sheep-like character of the new generations glued to their mobile screens.

We have likely reached the point of no return, past which we are way beyond a “back to normal”.

Leaders of the World’s nations, better be prepared for the advent of this emerging rogue nation called America, and forge fresh alliances while you can, for it is on its way! (and history has showed that cornered, dying empires, just like dogs, always do bite hard).
